Mrs Vanessa Callan MA Early Years Professional Practice
P.G.C.E. (Early Years), B Sc.(Hons),  E.Y.P.S.

Vanessa Callan is our Graduate trained Teacher  in Early Years and Nursery Director. She has had over 20 years experience within Early Years, including as a primary school teacher. Vanessa is responsible for leading the nursery and driving the nursery forward with her creative and innovative ideas.

Vanessa  was one of the first in the country to receive the Certificate for Early Years Professional Status in 2007 – an important step forward in the care and education of young children. The award ceremony in the  prestigious Commonwealth Club in London, saw Vanessa being presented with her certificate by Estelle Morris former Minister for Education, (and for those of you who remember ‘Playschool’ Floella Benjamin!). The ceremony was attended by many important figures in the field of education, anxious to ensure that both the public and press, attending the awards ceremony,  were aware of the importance of this forward step in the ongoing development of Nursery Education.

In 2013 Vanessa was among just six other professionals to receive a Masters Degree in Early Years Professional Practice from Anglia Ruskin University. This is the first of its kind, a new qualification that included leadership, pedagogy, inclusion and Children’s Rights.

Vanessa is part of a group of professionals, sharing good practice between countries in Croatia, Greece, Poland and Norway. She has visited each country and integrated many wonderful ideas she has observed in these nurseries.

Vanessa is a regular contributor to Nursery World Magazine and the Primary Geography Journal. She consults around the globe, including Canada and Greece, as well as closer to home in the UK.

Vanessa has two children aged 16 and 9 years, who both attended High House.
